How many people have wanted to write
and publish their own "Great American
Novel?" Very few of us actually find the
time to do just that...and those that
accomplish putting word to paper, find it
just as hard to get that dream published
and available to the masses.
Consequently, there have been many
books written by local authors that
never see a bookstore shelf or
acknowledged as a significant
contribution to our local history. These
ambitious few, along with those that
have titles long out of print, deserve to
be cataloged.
As a bonus, I will be
peppering the site with
pictures of interest. I
collect Burlington post
cards and I love looking
at old photos of the
area. The picture at the
left is towards the end of
the construction of
Burlington City Hall
(c.1923). The man
leaning out of window in
the white sleeves is my
maternal Great
Grandfather,
Robert "Shorty" Johnson.

At this site, I will attempt to provide as many entries as I can: Books of local interest, titles published by local
residence and those of surrounding communities, and books about the area -directly and indirectly. Many are
not available in book stores, and even some that are out of print. Some are only available from the authors
themselves. This site is for information only and not a place to order the titles, however I will include info (as I
know it) on whether the book is out-of-print, still available, and the possibilities of obtaining a copy. Some titles
may be found on E-Bay or at flea markets and if you are really lucky, a garage sale or Grandma's attic.
